Substituting!
I'm back at it again, subbing at school for some extra cash. I know they don't pay subs enough, especially "certifiable" teachers; did I say certifiable? Freudian slip, I guess. Actually, most of the time, it's a waste of my time to sub, but, what are you going to do? I need the oil money! My expertise is worth a lot more than that; that's a little elitist, isn't it? Ah, now you've caught my flaw, I AM AN ELITIST! I hate to admit it, but I am. I have very little patience for people who don't or won't at least even try something new or at least try to better themselves. Now I'm talking educational things, because I myself on other accounts could be guilty of not trying. I'm digressing here; I'm talking about subs and their lack of pay and/or respect. The only thing worse in public schools are folks who end up being "Ed. Techs." Their job description basically, is to do whatever it is no one else wants to do and do it with a smile on their face and do it for minimum wage. I know having a job is just a pretty good thing now-a-days, but geez, do you really want someone to teach your kids by a person who's had no or one/two years of college "teaching" your kids? It's like saying, "No, I'll take the surgeon who barely passed his "board" exams to operate on me." C'mon folks! I DO like long-term subbing because then I can be my harda-- self and then leave when the teacher comes back! I love those jobs! Maybe my father was right, education is overrated. Think about it: where would we be today if it weren't for all those educated people leading us to where we are now? I have a whole 'nuther discourse on why education may not be the panacea for the world. That one should be one that'll put me out of education circles pretty quickly! There are a few other topics that might surprise you that I actually agreed with my father about and that makes me scared of myself for that matter!
