Proctoring Final Exams P. 2
Ok, you challenged me! I'd rather have a "dare" but I'll take the challenge! When we go to school, what classes are the ones we look forward to? In Elem. school, you look forward to recess, playing with instruments, playing in the sandbox, lunch and phys. ed. In middle school, you look forward to break in the morning, lunch, phys. ed. either/both art and music and extra-curricular activities. In high school, you look forward to getting into the right clothes and social group, break, lunch, classes with labs, phys. ed, art/music and extra-curricular activities and you hope your hormones and testosterone don't embarrass you too much. Are you following my drift here? All of these "things" I've described are ACTIVE, HANDS-ON, UP AND ABOUT doing something. And what do most kids also do, in Maine at least, from grades 4-12 each student has his/her own computer. What do they do? They usually play games, look at sites they are not supposed to even with a filter on, email their friends, get into chat rooms and usually use it once in awhile to actually do some word processing, amen. My next installment goes where MOST schools do not dare, nay, do NOT even contemplate going, and it's exactly what they should be doing for our students to be educated and creative at the same time!

We need to take a lesson from the Germans.
ReplyDeleteAt some point in their education they are evaluated to see what they will be good at. Then they go do that for a while and see if they would benefit from more school. If so they are allowed to go further. If not, daddy can't get you in no matter how much money he has.
It makes the resources go to the people that can do the work and college is not a 4 year party with a bunch of people that have no hope of getting a job that justifies the expense.
